Switching agent mid-task
Hit a limit halfway through a task? Move the conversation to another agent you pay for and carry on.
A conversation in StateSync belongs to the project, not to the agent that started it. Part way through a task, you can move the conversation to a different agent and carry on.
When to switch
Usually because a weekly or session limit has run out. The work is half done, the agent will not take another request for days, and the only other choice is to wait. Switching means the work does not wait for a limit to reset.
The other reason is fit. One agent may be better at a long refactor, another at a quick fix, and the step you are on now is not the step you started with.
How to switch
Pick a different agent for the chat and send the next message. The new agent starts from the conversation so far, so there is nothing to paste and nothing to explain again.
Carrying the conversation across is what the Continuity capability does. The capability is on by default, in Settings, under Capabilities.
What carries across
- The conversation so far, as the new agent's own history.
- The project, its files and its terminals.
- The review state: files already marked read stay read.
What stays behind
Anything private to the agent you left: its memory files, its settings, and any tool the new agent does not have.
