StateVoice dictation
Press a shortcut and talk. StateVoice transcribes on your own machine, so the recording never leaves your computer.
StateVoice is dictation built into StateSync. Press the shortcut, talk, press it again, and clean text is typed wherever your cursor is.
Starting and stopping
- The shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+Space until you change it. Press it once to start and again to stop. To hold it while you speak instead, turn on Hold to talk in Settings, under StateVoice.
- Escape throws a dictation away, from any app.
- The text goes into whatever app is in front, not only StateSync.
- To change the shortcut, open Settings, then StateVoice, and press the new keys.
Transcribed on your computer
The speech model runs on your own machine. Your audio is not uploaded, not to StateSync and not to a speech service, and no recording is kept once the text is written.
Choosing a speech model
- Each model is marked real time or batch, and English or multilingual.
- Show words as you speak needs a real time model.
- Keep the model in memory for sets how long the model stays loaded after you stop, from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. Longer means the next dictation starts sooner.
- A graphics card can speed transcription up. The optional runtime for it is under Advanced voice settings.
Microphone
Pick a microphone, or leave it on the system default. Test shows a live level so you can see StateVoice hearing you. If the saved microphone is unplugged, StateVoice falls back to the default and says so.
Cleaning up the text
- Remove filler sounds strips um, uh and the like. The list of sounds is yours to edit.
- Fix spellings teaches StateVoice the names and terms it keeps getting wrong.
- Punctuation is added for you. You do not have to say it.
What leaves your computer
Nothing, from dictation. The full account of what StateSync does and does not receive is on what stays on your machine and in the privacy policy.
